Abstracted Portrait

Combining you blind contour drawing and colour theory skills!

What You’ll Need:

  • Paper (Alternatively you can work on newsprint: take a piece of newspaper and paste it onto as piece of card with a mixture of glue and water- give it 2 hrs to dry)
  • Black Marker
  • Oil pastels
  • Watercolour + Jar of water (Optional)

Abstracted Portrait

  1. First, do a blind contour drawing of your face or someone else’s face. Remember, you CAN’T look at the paper!
  2. Use the oil pastels to colour in different parts of the portrait. Try to use bright colours, and use colours where you wouldn’t normally find them.
  3. Optionally, you can put a wash of watercolour on the background to tone it down a bit. This works especially well if you’re doing it on newsprint

And it’s THAT easy!!
