Abstracted Portrait
Combining you blind contour drawing and colour theory skills!
What You’ll Need:
- Paper (Alternatively you can work on newsprint: take a piece of newspaper and paste it onto as piece of card with a mixture of glue and water- give it 2 hrs to dry)
- Black Marker
- Oil pastels
- Watercolour + Jar of water (Optional)
Abstracted Portrait

- First, do a blind contour drawing of your face or someone else’s face. Remember, you CAN’T look at the paper!
- Use the oil pastels to colour in different parts of the portrait. Try to use bright colours, and use colours where you wouldn’t normally find them.
- Optionally, you can put a wash of watercolour on the background to tone it down a bit. This works especially well if you’re doing it on newsprint
And it’s THAT easy!!
