Creating the Template

First of all, choose a shoe. You can pick pretty much any type. Look at the shoe closely; noticing lines of symmetry, different segments and shape.

To start off, you’re going to create a template using the plain paper and pencil. You’re going to draw the different parts of your shoes now, some parts can be very tricky, which is why you’re doing it on paper first.

You might want to start of simply with the sole, which you can simply trace straight from the shoe. Be sure to mark each part that you draw. Also add your flaps at the same time. You’re going to use the flaps to stick the shoe together, so make sure that you add a decent amount of them.

Tracing the sole

Now continue this process for the rest of the shoe. Remember, some segments are easier to replicate that others, so look carefully at the shoe and how it’s put together. For instance, if your shoe is rounded at the front, you can create a comb like feature, which creates a semi-sphere when the flaps are drawn together.

Creating rounded parts

You can use one template piece for two parts of the shoe if that part is repeated, such as the sides.

It may all sound very confusing, but if you look at the shoe using your logic, you’ll be able to figure out how to replicate each part. Don’t give up!

Once you’ve got your templates you can cut out the different pieces and move onto the next step…

Transferring onto the cereal boxes

Now you’re ready to transfer! This is simple. All you need to do is place your template pieces down on the cereal boxes, trace around them, then cut them out.

You may want to mark your new pieces so that you don’t forget what goes where.

Piecing it together

Time to put all your hard work together! When doing this part, make sure you look closely at the real-life shoe, to make sure you’re sticking things in the right place.

First, use this simple trick to bend the flaps cleanly: place a ruler where you want your fold. Using your cutter, make an incision about halfway through the box. Now the flap should bend cleanly, without any creases.

Now, start sticking! Stick the pieces in their logical places, piece by piece, using pegs to hold your shoe in place while the glue dries. If you have a hot glue gun, you could try using that, as it dries very quickly.

You should see your shoe coming together now, keep going!

Well done, you just created your very own shoe!
