Abstracted Portrait

Combining you blind contour drawing and colour theory skills!

What You’ll Need:

  • Paper (Alternatively you can work on newsprint: take a piece of newspaper and paste it onto as piece of card with a mixture of glue and water- give it 2 hrs to dry)
  • Black Marker
  • Oil pastels
  • Watercolour + Jar of water (Optional)

Abstracted Portrait

  • First, do a blind contour drawing of your face or someone else’s face. Remember, you CAN’T look at the paper!
  • Use the oil pastels to colour in different parts of the portrait. Try to use bright colours, and use colours where you wouldn’t normally find them.
  • Optionally, you can put a wash of watercolour on the background to tone it down a bit. This works especially well if you’re doing it on newsprint

And it’s THAT easy!!
